VeinID | Biometric Transactions

Coca-Cola vending machine that uses Hitachi’s “finger vein authentication” (VeinID) technology as a replacement for conventional e-money, whereby you “pay” with your finger. The biometric system employs near-infrared light scanning to assess your finger vein to determine who you are. The system is safe, convenient and obviously hugely efficient, with no requirement for data like passwords, log-in numbers, IDs etc. Users register their email and postal addresses (as well as payment method), so that they can claim samples and giveaways directly through digital signage built into the unit.

Pretty impressive.
