Smart Smart Phone

Nokia Beta Labs have introduced an app called Nokia Situations. The app essentially enables the user to define how they want their phone to behave in different situations and then automatically adjusts the phone based on those settings. The app decides when to auto adapt based on stuff like time, day, location and available networks etc. It can switch Ringtones, change volume, turn vibrate on/off as well as answer missed calls with SMS and, well, can pretty much do anything (phone based) you need it to.

Hats off to Nokia – this is a very interesting use of mobile tech. And, as the number of available applications increases, context aware technology could be key to us experiencing the Internet in a more meaningful way on our handsets.

Situations is the latest in a series of customization tools launched by Nokia which includes: Nokia Feel, an app that suggests activities when users tell it how they’re feeling, and Nokia Bots, which auto customizes features based on personal preferences.
