Robot Bear Nurse Combo
RIBA, or “Robot for Interactive Body Assistance”, has been developed to assist nurses by lifting patients in and out of their beds and wheelchairs (as well as on and off the toilet) – the robot can safely pick up and carry people weighing as much as 61 kilograms.
The robotic bear can recognize faces and voices, as well as respond to spoken commands and, by using data collected by it’s many sensors, RIBA can identify co-workers, determine its position and react to changes in the immediate environment. Its body is covered in a soft skin molded from an advanced urethane foam which is designed to ensure the comfort of patients while they are being lifted/carried. RIBA’s creators claim they chose the friendly teddy bear appearance to put patients at ease.
At ease? Imagine coming round from an anesthetic in the arms of a giant robot bear…
I can’t imagine anything more terrifying.
