I love The Shield.

I think it’s by far the best cop show ever conceived, and even possibly the best TV show ever conceived.
To begin with much of The Shield seemed to be about the surface, the look: the way the cameras jiggled and jostled alongside the protagonists as they incessantly tailed dangerous drug dealers and killers. It was all about the excitement of the chase.
But that was 6 seasons ago.
The Shield now takes us deep inside the bedevilled minds of the often-lawless Strike Team. Mind games dominate, and they are every bit as exciting as the street action and interrogations that initially made Mackey and his team famous. The Shield is uniquely effective in raising the tension level and then continuously jacking then up to a point where you can barely watch.
No show I have watched has managed to hold an unfaltering momentum like The Shield. It’s relentless and often exhausting and has been consistently so for some 60+ episodes.
Yes it can be a little clichéd, but it never runs out of ideas. Right from the off it’s been brilliantly written and performed and is a master of character interconnection.
If you haven’t watched it yet, do. Watch it right from the start, and I promise you won’t be let down.
