Doogie Houser Is The New Radiohead

I was reading Iain’s ‘What Advertising Can Learn From Radiohead’ post earlier and figured that we can also learn a thing or two from Doogie Houser, or more specifically, Joss Whedon. Not only has he seemingly resurrected his flagging career (Houser not Whedon), but he’s the star of Dr Horrible’s Sind-Along Blog. Which, if you don’t know already, is a 40-minute, 3-part musical superhero comedy produced by Joss (Buffy/Angel/Firefly) Whedon, specifically for the internet.

It was launched and distributed for free (Radiohead style) last week, with a view to it making cash on iTunes, merchandise and a DVD release.

If you haven’t checked it out yet, here’s a trailer:

The whole thing was/is pretty big, with the official site repeatedly crashing under the massive demand and the episodes (1-3) are top of the pops over at the iTunes TV thingy. Plus, loads of idiots like me are still writing about it, so it seems to have worked and is another fine example of someone who understands his punter.

Oh, and do read Iain’s post, as he does a much better job of this explaining thing.

You forgotted to enmentionate that you can’t get this in the UK. Does this mean I’m going to have to get an illegal torrent of it? WHy isn’t iTunes UK letting me have it? I want answers, dammit.

It’s because you smell of sour milk Williams. That’s why you can’t have it.
