owngig

owngig came about owing to the phenomenal rise of the private gig, where an artist plays a small show often in a unique venue. Up until now they have been the domain of the super-rich, so we felt compelled to source these shows more democratically through the power of the crowd and put them in the reach of true fans.

Just tell us about the acts you want to see, where you want to see them and how much you would be willing to pay. We regularly track and group requests and negotiate on your behalf with artists to commission exclusive shows wherever your demand dictates.

Hopefully this service is a benefit to the artist also, in that in enables them to understand where in the world their fan base is located and consequently tour in places they might otherwise miss out on. We hope you like the concept and are willing to give it a go. We’re confident it can work if enough people get behind it, ensuring owngig.com becomes a direct link between artists and real fans.’

Robot And Roll

The Trons sound check in the lounge before a fringe gig.

Eddie Izzard ‘Jump’ - Union Square Theatre

The Union Square Theater is a small venue and it was rammed. This show is clearly still a work in progress, but it is very funny. I laughed my little socks off.

If you are here, you should go.

CheesyQuaver

So there I was, bobbing along to some Fabio, thinking how brilliant my CheesyQuaverWednesday was going and then this:

That bastard Iain Tate (who I am not going to link, coz he gets enough fecking traffic anyway) goes and trumps me some ‘best ever internet toy thing‘ nonsense.

I give-up, this blogging thing is shit anyway.

Fecking Tony - B.

Not So Daft?

Daft Punk are promoting their new live album, Alive*, with this embeddable widget device - adding yet more fuel to the ‘regular’ vs cheaper ‘user-syndicated social web based’ (catchy eh?) promotion debate that’s bound to be raging in some lilac office somewhere.

This newfangled contraption enables visitors of the host to listen to previews, buy new tracks, read about the band and see a photo gallery. Ironically, I had to remove the embedded file because the audio was driving me mad - here’s a link instead.

*See what they did there.

Prince 21 Nights - The Last Night

I take it all back.

Awesome.

Prince 02 London

19 years have passed since I first saw Prince, and this time it showed. The crowd (myself included) were old, the songs seemed laboured and the passion was all but gone.

It was good to hear ‘I Would Die For You’, ‘Sigh ‘O’ The Times’ and ‘Purple Rain’ once more, but the whole thing felt like the pint sized pop poser was just going through the motions. The show was slick and the performance tight, but neither was as inventive or as awesome as I had hoped. I would be lying if I said I didn’t enjoy parts of it immensely, but something has changed and things have moved on.

It doesn’t mean as much anymore - and that makes it all a bit sad.
