TuneGlue | Visual Audio Mapping

TuneGlue is a web app that maps and visualizes musical relationships, by similarity of artist. Data is pulled from Amazon and LastFM so artists can be tagged with additional information like about and release dates. You can also play about with the map structure a bit which is kinda fun.

Tesla Coil Concerto

Here at rubbishcorp® I love a bit of musical Tesla action. So what better way than to enjoy my packed lunch than to the dulcet tones of high frequency alternating current electricity versions of 2001 A Space Odyssey, Ghostbusters and Mega Man.

Gamester Rap

There are several game-raps doing the rounds at the mo – this is the best I’ve heard.

YouTube | Disco

YouTube’s Labs have added a new service with a very long name: YouTube Music Discovery Project and Playlist Creation Tool. The service enables users to type the name of an artist and then generates a playlist that includes music from that artist as well as other artists like them. Once a playlist is generated you can add or remove songs as you please.

It’s a simple way to find and discover music.

The Axis of Awesome | 4 Chords

Studio recording of The Axis of Awesome’s “4 Chords”. The song that proves that all you need to be a pop star is four simple chords.

thesixtyone | Music Discovery

‘On thesixtyone, new artists make music and listeners decide what’s good. We’re nurturing a growing ecosystem where talented folks can sell songs and merchandise directly to their fans. Unlike a record or distribution deal where they only make $1-2 per album (if they ever get paid, that is), artists on thesixtyone make at least $7 per album and are paid every 30 days — no wait for recoupment and no complex royalty schemes’

Recently overhauled and looking pretty good.

Spotibot

Spotibot helps you discover music you like on Spotify. You can either send it a message on twitter  by typing @spotibot similar to and then the name of an artist. It’ll send you back a recommendation within a few minutes. Or, more usefully,  it’ll generate Spotify playlists based on a single artist.

Social Player | Facebook Music Status For iPhone

Social Player enables you to share any song that you’re listening to on your iPhone directly to your Facebook status at the click of a button. The app simply runs on top of the existing iPod software and all you have to do is tap the button (left) to share the song you’re currently listening to. The app currently doesn’t link directly to a song, it just notifies song title, artist, and album, as well as the album cover (I am assuming that functionality will follow). Music status obviously isn’t new (Skype/Blip/etc.) but iPhone/FB integration makes it the easiest music-status-updater I’ve come across to date. I guess means it’ll be adding to my already quite large status pie, providing people can get over the fact it’s not free and there’s no links to actual songs (i.e. it’s not a player – yet).

Upular

Video for ‘Upular’, composed using chords, bass notes and vocal samples from the Pixar film ‘Up’. This Upular video is an officially item and reminds me of the lovely Alice by Pogo – which seemingly has had it’s superior Disney style video wiped away (see below)…
