iTunes Ping

iTunes10 has a social network for music fans called Ping. Ping enables you to publicly announce the music that you like, share music with your friends and make Twitter-like comments on it in real-time. You can follow your mates and even artists on Ping fan pages that encourage conversations with fans.

Kinda like social Spotify, but with artists…

Hurts | Interactive Audio Novel

Hurts and novelist Joe Stretch have created an interactive audio novel on Spotify in which you get to play the protagonist. Narrated by Anna Friel, ‘Don’t Let Go’  has been broken into chunks published as tracks on Spotify which can be located by typing a code into the search field. Not unlike those adventure books I had as a kid (aside from the technology bent and extracts of music from Hurts’ brand new album “Happiness”) at the end of each passage you’re be offered a choice of what to do next. If you manage to get to one of the story’s eleven possible endings without dying, you’ll be rewarded with an exclusive preview of an album track.

Smart.

Arcade Fire | HTML5 Video

“Choreographed windows, interactive flocking, custom rendered maps, real-time compositing, procedural drawing, 3D canvas rendering… this Chrome Experiment has them all. “The Wilderness Downtown” is an interactive interpretation of Arcade Fire’s song “We Used To Wait” and was built entirely with the latest open web technologies, including HTML5 video, audio, and canvas.” Make sure you run Chrome and have all other apps closed because it’s quite heavy on processor use.

Live Weather Music Video

Music video for Lissie’s ‘Cookoo’ that varies based on the live weather of a location you select on Google Maps. Lovely idea – frustrating execution.

Shuffler | Channel Surf The Music Web

Shuffler aggregates music from around the web by genre. The home page houses a list of channels which are a bit like radio channels (divided by genre). When you click on a channel we send you to a blog post and start playing one of the songs mentioned on that post. If you don’t like it you can skip ahead or pick another channel from the shuffler bar on the top of the page. When the song ends, Shuffler sends you to the next song on the next blog.

Sweet.

Ex.FM

ExtensionFM is a (pretty fracking smart) browser extension for Chrome that turns the entire web into your personal music library. As you browse, ExtensionFM runs in the background indexing every MP3 file you come across, building a music library for you. ExtensionFM will continue to check the sites you’ve visited, adding new music for you to listen to every day.
