Be Kind Rewind // BluRay // £15
As much as I love Gondry, and as charming as it might be, Be Kind Rewind is not a very good film. It’s a good idea, but one that isn’t worthy of a whole film.
There are some good/funny bits (mostly the Robocop/Ghostbusters sweding scenes), but not surprisingly they feel a bit like music videos, punctuating a poorly written, average ramble. Sadly, when the gang aren’t sweding, the film isn’t hugely exciting, with not much happening that is either amusing or engaging.
Having said that I still quite enjoyed the film. It’s got a lot of heart and the moments of Gondry ‘inspiration’ make any film sort-of-worth-your-while.
It’s a shame his genius doesn’t extend into his writing as it does his crazy ideas and snazzy film techniques.
