Batman Arkham Asylum | Multi | Review
Developer Rocksteady has obviously gone to great lengths to make this a hugely immersive experience. The art direction, gameplay, story and even the voiceovers in the game help greatly in achieving that goal. It’s a great package, and the production values are incredible across the board.
Essentially a fighting action adventure “Arkham Asylum” delivers a perfectly balanced game. Puzzles, platforming and fisticuffs in spades. The latter being outstanding. Initially feeling a bit limited, as you start unlock more combos and various fighting maneuvers, the depth of the combat engine increases significantly. This means that what could have easily been a series of dull button mashing encounters rapidly become an enjoyable part of the journey. On the flip side the stealth aspects of the game impress just as well. You can have just as much fun creeping about using the myriad of upgradeable gadgetry to assist you in knocking off your enemies from the shadows. Explosive gel, batarangs, detective vision mode and grappling hooks all assist in the henchmen elimination.

Visually Rocksteady has done a fantastic job of crafting the Arkham Asylum’s world. The variety of environments and the attention to detail is incredible, especially given that it’s all set on one island. This is without doubt one of the most visually arresting titles of the year (so far).

At its core, “Batman: Arkham Asylum” is an awesome third-person action/fighting game, but the reality is that it’s a whole lot more than that. My only complaint is that it’s a little short – but to be fair, while you’re in there, it’s absolutely top draw.
