ARhrrrr | Augmented Shooter
ARhrrrr is an augmented reality shooter for mobile (camera) phones. The phone provides a window into a 3d town overrun with blood lusting zombies. Point the camera at the game map to mix virtual and real world content. Your aim is to shoot zombies from a chopper – clearing the path for the trapped civilians to escape. It’s a sweet use of the format:
There’s a lot of talk right now about AR and it’s misappropriation by ‘innovation crazed advertisers’ – here’s an interesting point of view that compares Augmented Reality to Second Life:
“People have been comparing Twitter to Second Life, but I think “augmented reality” is a more accurate analogy, with most advertisers getting lured by the futuristic wow-factor, riding the hype cycle, and pretty much misunderstanding the potential of the medium. The thing has officially entered the collective industry consciousness, too, now that WSJ picked it up.” [AdLab]
AR is fantastic, just as long as you pull it away from making someone print out a bit of paper and stare at their computer screen without actually offering any real interaction.
Useful retail, mobile and gaming is surely the way forward.
