rubbishcorp® has no flashy office, no work force, no corporate guidelines, no holding company, no fat cats, no stakeholders, no boardroom, no hidden agenda and no greed.
Nothing, just pixels and a couple of ideas.
rubbishcorp® is the by-product of a desire to learn. It’s also a place where I can put all the stuff I want to remember, think is interesting or want to share. It also pushes me to constantly read and find out about stuff that’s happening in the world of tech and the internet – stuff that really helps me do my job. For fun I also write for Anorak Magazine, I tutor (D&AD // Amsterdam Miami Ad School), I loiter about a bit as a fellow of the Creative Social and play quite a lot of video games.
I am currently working at Anomaly London, I’m paid 50/50 by creative and planning and I’m a sort of Head Of Digital, but I don’t really have a job title. The continued evolution of digital from mostly just ‘display’ to being at the heart of pretty much all brand communications means that, if I am to be effective, I need to understand and be able to work across multiple disciplines and channels. I approach and solve problems using a combination of digital strategy, channel modelling, comms planning and creative execution. And that works right across a business, meaning I use a huge variety of methods and channels to deliver value to both my clients and audience.
I make systems, not objects.
My experience comes from working with some brilliant people at places like Anomaly London| W+K Amsterdam | RIOT (180/TBWA) Amsterdam | R/GA London & New York| POKE London & New York | Arden Sutherland Dodd London | BSkyB London | ST LUKES London & Stockholm | MOTHER London.
RIOT/180 Amsterdam – Executive Creative Director [Digital/Integrated] – (adidas) Global. My role at RIOT/180 involved the day to day running of a 55 strong full service digital agency. As ECD I was responsible for providing planning, strategic and creative leadership to a multi-disciplinary team from pure digital production to more integrated and traditional communication. Aside from site and comms work RIOT had a strong content creation and digital PR capability all based on a newsroom style (constant communications) model. During my time at RIOT I was also heavily involved in all the aspects of agency business, driving development and growth and ensuring RIOT worked well as a part of 180′s full service offering.
R/GA London – Executive Creative Director (Nokia // Nike // Zain // PepsiCo // Microsoft // Alfa Romeo). Due to the size of the office my role involved both developing and delivering bigger (360) strategic and creative thinking as well as crafting output and working closely with my teams on smaller projects. Aside from digital comms and site builds I was involved in the creation and delivery of branded utility platforms, mobile applications, digital outdoor as well as digital retail installations. I also created and oversaw Nokia viNe and Nike Kit Builder, I was creative lead on the Nokia Global Digital Pitch, as well as working on (and winning) pitches for o2, Sky, John Lewis, PEPSI and Alpha Romeo. As part of the management team I also was responsible for the growth and success of the business, largely working with a remote MD.
POKE London & New York – Creative Director (ITV // Google // Nike // BBC // Boots // Amex // Mozilla). At POKE I was a floating CD/Creative Lead working with the partners as well as planners, designers, writers and technologists and Mother, depending on the project. Most notably during my time at POKE I engineered a Google/Nike/Firefox partnership and developed a hugely successful Nike Firefox World Cup browser with an an ad that featured on the Google homepage.
Arden Sutherland Dodd London – Commercials Director (Playstation // BMW Mini // Carling // Pot Noodle // Sony Ericsson). During my time at ASD I directed TV commercials for agencies such as Crispin Porter and TBWA as well as writing and creating content for shops like Glue London. on top of that I got to work with the late Paul Arden, who is an inspiration.
BSkyB London – Channel Creative/Producer – BSkyB enabled me to work as a Channel Creative Director and Producer as well as a client. I got to write, produce and direct promos, commercials and content as well as creatively direct external advertising agencies on advertising and comms. I worked across many other aspects of the broadcast business including creating and launching 3 bespoke music channels including original programming, advertising and the on air identity.
St Luke’s London & Stockholm – Copywriter/Art Director (IKEA // HSBC // Clarks // Eurostar // BT // BSkyB). At St Luke’s I ‘cut my advertising teeth,’ working across multiple clients and projects creating everything from social web platforms, tactical press, PR stunts and the occasional huge/big TV campaign.
MOTHER London – Runner/Writer (Super Noodles // Channel 5 // Virgin). I was Mothers first employee – I joined as a runner.
