Qik Test
rubbishcorp®’s live qik channel running from an Nokia N95 8GB. This device/widget combo should enable me to broadcast live to my blog from anywhere in the whole wide world.
Look. It’s brilliant.
Newsworthy?
‘StarNow,’ a UK based talent agency, has a job listing for someone who can ‘write a few lines about how computer games turned you to crime’ for an un-named national newspaper. The newspaper will apparently pay hundreds of pounds to the right person, who can help manufacturer a tabloid exposé.

Capzles
“Capzles uniquely blends social networking and storytelling, allowing users to express themselves through combined videos, photos/images, blogs and music/audio along horizontal timelines (capzles) to share stories. From vacations to new product launches, Capzles lets anyone tell their stories in a fast, easy-to-use, high-style Flash interface that more accurately reflects personality and style. Capzles is where its audience is - everywhere on the Web - with its destination site, widget for personal Web space, or licensed software.”
In other words, a sort of photo management/sharing tool that’s kinda like iPhoto online, but with time mapping and a sweet flash interface. It enables anyone to tell a story using linear, time-based, layouts of stuff like photos, video, audio, blog entries, etc.
Colorful, interactive ‘time capsules’ with a smart, unique, easy-to-use Flash interface and robust back-end tech.
Creative ? Compromise
Do you remember this ad?
It was (is) a great ad. It was very much of it’s moment, it created an identifiable enemy, it’s was well written and executed and it generated empathy and enthusiasm. On top of that, it was a part of a long line of solid strategic brand communication that, to this day, is the reason my Dad now likes Audi.
Will anyone remember this ad?

It’s not really of it’s moment, it has (lazily) attempted to create an enemy, it’s not really written or executed and it creates absolutely no empathy or enthusiasm. As far as the strategy goes, it’s as old as the above Audi ad and it’s lazy, hackneyed and about as original as it was when Strongbow etc. used it.
Has the agency said no to to compromise?
Like f*@k it has.

Gran Turismo 5 Prologue // PS3

The Gran Turismo series has always been famed as a driving simulator, which is kinda funny when you think about how many people actually know what it’s like to drive a DB9 around the Suzuka Circuit, or even an Suzuki Cappuccino in London for that matter (present company excluded of course). Plus, how can siting on my sofa with a controller in one hand, and a piece of cake in the other, pertain to being any kind of driving simulation?
Anyways, I think what they mean by driving simulator is that GT games have good physics - which they undoubtedly do. The difference in the handling of each vehicle is certainly unique and solid, although the same may be argued about arcade racers, but I guess that’s a whole different subject.
As we all know, realness can reduce excitement, fortunately that’s not the case here; GT5 Prologue is an excellent, enjoyable and at times (dare I say it), exciting game. It’s slicker than pretty much every racer before it (with the possible exception of PGR4 and Forza 2) and graphically it’s quite simply stunning.

The car models are definitely the best I’ve seen, thanks (mostly) to the wonderful (see above) lighting engine. Races now have 16 cars and the AI seems smarter; no longer appearing to just be playing bumper cars. The online, although limited in this release, is robust, and although not quite as polished as Xbox Live, it works very well.
My major gripe is the fact that after I fired up the disc, I had to install a system update, which meant I had to wait around 40 minutes before I could play..?
I don’t think GT5 / GT5 Prologue is for everyone, and yes this is only a demo really (one that costs £25), however, I’ve already got more out of this than I ever did from Need For Speed Pro Street.
Super, super slick.
G.ho.st Social OS
Social Operating Systems are founded on the belief that traditional OS (Windows/Mac/Linux), and all the applications that live inside those boundaries, are obsolete.
Global Hosted Operating System, or ‘G.ho.st‘ (nice), is evidence of that shift and the next step in moving all app’s and files from physical machines to the Internet. Essentially Web-hosted desktops / laptops (including all your data, personal settings, files and app’s etc.), that can be accessed by any client device, via any Web browser.
G.ho.st doesn’t require software upgrades and is always backed up, but its killer selling point is really the mobility and ‘device-independence’ it offers users - it’s like hot-desking the whole wide world.
I’ve been long reading about Social OS - G.ho.st is the first example I’ve seen live. And although it’s only currently in public “alpha” and a bit buggy, the VC is apparently stable and usable (don’t get too excited, it doesn’t yet have a complete set of applications, services or widgets, but I guess they won’t be far away).
Of course Microsoft, Google, Mozilla and the like are all fiercely competing to provide your Web OS, online app’s, documents and storage facilities just as soon as they can. G.ho.st may be the first up, but as it (or some evil robot master race that has no concept of the phrase everyone) says, soon there’ll really be a free Virtual Computer for every human being.
GraphJam
You know all those charts and graphs that have been knocking around? Well, GraphJam is a site where you can create and post your own; all you need is an idea.
Don’t know about you, but I think I’m done with the whole graphs thing now.
Cadbury’s Lorries
The sequel to the Gorilla ad isn’t as original or as interesting as the Gorilla ad, and it feels very much just that: an ad. Like balls before it, Gorilla felt unique, for whatever reason, this doesn’t.
If I’m totally honest, I don’t want to like it, and I don’t think I do (like it), but it’s hard to be sure that I’m not just being a cynical twat. I guess I need some time to think it through.
However, no matter what I think, in a industry that’s desperately seeking a saviour, it’ll undoubtedly be vehemently admired.
