All About My Mother - Old Vic
The play based on the film by Pedro Almodovar, All About My Mother was an enjoyable enough Saturday afternoon. Although ultimately I think the experience was let down because of some pretty obvious cultural differences. The relationships, although believable in the Spanish film, were not so convincing in the English stage play, and considering that’s what this is all about - it’s a bit of a shame. Plus, I found some of the characterization and the casting a little labored. The ‘Agrado’ character too often bordered on slapstick and seemed very contrived. I guess it’s just synonyms with the Theatre, but I never quite believed the performances, I never really got that absorbed.
Don’t get me wrong, there was a lot that was good. The way in which the story unraveled was as refreshing and inventive as I’ve seen, and the art direction and production design were top draw.
I liked the movie, and although ambitious and incredibly well put together, I liked the play - only not nearly as much as the movie.

Zelda // Phantom Hourglass - DS

DS is top and there are loads of AAA games, but there are few masterpieces.
This game, is just that.
The single greatest reason to own a DS, Phantom Hourglass is everything we’ve come to love about Zelda games wrapped up in a very shiny new package. Nintendo implements a new touch screen control mechanic so seamlessly into the standard Zelda game design that it’s hard to imagine life before the stylus. There are few games on the DS that take advantage of the technology as well as Phantom Hourglass does. And there are very few games that are as compelling to play.
Wonderful.
Maze Crazy
“Click on the tiny red dot and guide it through the white part of the maze. Watch out for the moving objects. If you go off the path you will have to start all over from the beginning.”
Oh, and turn the sound off.

Write Smart
‘About 60 million CAPTCHAs are typed around the world every day. In each case, roughly ten seconds of human time are being spent. Individually, that’s not a lot of time, but in aggregate these little puzzles consume more than 150,000 hours of work each day. What if we could make positive use of this human effort? reCAPTCHA does exactly that by channeling the effort spent solving CAPTCHAs online into “reading” books.’
Fantastic idea.
Illuminated Cake/Remote Harness

Any product that makes it “easier to relax and enjoy a snack while you’re reading or watching TV”, is good in my book. Simply clip this mini table over the arm of your chair or sofa. You’ll instantly have room for your drink/cake and remote control.
The Clip-On Tray with Light is available (directly from 1972 apparently) for $19.95 at Solutions.
Guerrilla Skate
