Dulwich North Station.

The most middle class station I have ever visited. It has a painting and a fireplace in the ticket hall.

Believe the magic.

Fresh from the C.N.P.D: The 2007 operation surge to crack down on insurgent activity in Iraq has failed. The Pentagon tries one last tactic. 400,000 leaflets are dropped into the suburbs of Bagdad, the message reads ‘Believe The Magic’. Children and parents maimed or injured by US forces will be given Disney vouchers worth $120.00. (Conditions apply).

The U.S. led ‘Operation Magic Kingdom’ moves into Bagdad, adopting the UK’s ‘Winning Hearts And Minds’ tactic by wearing masks portraying loveable and friendly Disney characters in a bid to gain the confidence of the Iraqi people. The rules of engagement have been changed to include ‘try and be more fun before firing’.

Starting on the 23rd February 2007, ‘Operation Magic Kingdom’ is hitting the streets of Shoreditch, London and beyond with a billboard and flyposter campaign.

One billboard under the bridge at the end of Old Street will show a different image for 3 consecutive weeks supported by the extensive flypostering of 2 designs around the area.

The leader of the C.N.P.D. (Jimmy Cauty formerly of KLF) was unavailable for comment but has previously opened a Terrorist Aware Gift shop in 2004 in time for the Christmas massive (Original story available by clicking here).

Batman Begins HD DVD

batman_02.gif

Although dark and brooding, i don’t think Batman Begins isn the best comic-book movie ever made. But it is highly enjoyable and probably the most sophisticated.

Director Christopher Nolan takes a fairly direct approach and from the off, he begs the question: Why would a ridiculously wealthy but otherwise ordinary man put on a silly costume to fight crime?

Good question, which he actually answers quite successfully.

Nolan, (Memento and Insomnia), once again centers his narrative on a (mentally) troubled protagonist. He delves into the psyche of an orphaned Bruce Wayne (Christian Bale), who has been running from the demons within.

And Batman Begins manages to make this familiar tale of the Dark Knight’s birth feel relatively fresh. From his facination with bats to his near-loony obsession with do-gooding. The movie is (as far as it can be and to it’s credit) grounded in realism, and is blessed with a formidable cast, including Gary Oldman, Michael Caine and Morgan Freeman.

The villains are pretty good, there’s a mad-hatter Scarecrow, whose powders cause his victims to suffer frightening hallucinogenic visions and the imperious Ra’s al Ghul, whose near-fascist take on justice makes him one of Batman’s most nefarious foes.

On the flip side the film is a bit long and gets a bit/really silly in places. But the pace and action more than make up for it, and at the end of the day this is a movie about a man in a cape who thinks he’s a bat.

It’s also worth mentioning that this was my first 1080 HD movie experience and that must be factored onto this opinion.

And yes, it did look great.
