Bug Anomaly

I found this on a window in my house and it got me thinking.

How fast did this thing have to be travelling to end up like that? It’s splattered almost half it’s tiny ‘fairly lightweight’ body, that’s quite an achievement. And what was going through it’s little mind, ‘I’ll get through, just one more go, with a little run-up’?

Quite incredible, I even started considering the possibility the little fella may of had some assistance and I found myself scouring the floor for a tiny jet pack.

Before I start, last night was an away fixture and the table wasn’t in very good condition. It was very small and the resolution was poor (around 576i).

p3140021.jpg

Several rounds of Burnout 3 ‘crash for cash’ had taken their toll, and that combined with the poor quality of the table, meant the game seemed very slow to start.

When I came round I’d fallen behind slightly and there was a bit to do. Again it was scrappy, but I finished well (with some new found confidence). 60 odd - 20 ish was the final score, taking me to a 2-1 lead with £30 in the pot.

Another £5 in each and we entered frame two of the evening. I was riding high with two wins on the bounce. But by this time the night was wearing on and both of us were becoming increasingly tired and un-coordinated. What followed was generally a shambles and best forgotten - a couple of well placed shots being the difference in the end.

Campbell ‘destroyed’ my slim early lead and took frame 4 (which I think was more to do with the quality of the opposition that any gifted cue action).

This makes my head hurt.

Apparently researchers are on the verge of experiments that will finally hold retrocausality’s feet to the fire by attempting to send a signal to the past. What’s more, they need not invoke black holes, wormholes, extra dimensions or other exotic implements of time travel. It should all be doable with the help of a state-of-the-art optics workbench and the bizarre yet familiar tricks of quantum particles. If retrocausality is confirmed — and that is a huge if — it would overturn our most cherished notions about the nature of cause and effect and how the universe works.Read More.

My only question is how can you prove something’s gone back in time - surely someone would have to be there to see it, with a camera?

This is very similar to Second Life, but I guess as it’s much more mass market, it might be a little bit more accessible.

Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess, Wii

928519_20060914_screen001.jpg

I, like all brought up on a diet of Shigeru Miyamoto games, was very excited by the prospect of a new Zelda outing. I have played Zelda from NES up and have enjoyed all the titles to date. Mostly. It’s been a while, and this version had been touted as a return to form after the slightly below par Windmaker.
Sadly, my excitement soon faded, and I once again found myself questioning the much-loved Nintendo. Twilight Princess is essentially a Game Cube port - but it feels like it belongs on the N64 (and on my HDTV it’s almost as milky).

The Wiimote is obviously the big USP here, but realistically (for me), it’s not as intuitive, accurate or easy to use as the N64 pad was for Ocarina. I am repeatedly finding myself annoyed at the apparent randomness and wavey nature of the controls.

The simple fact of the matter is, I’ve played Zelda for about 10 hours since it’s launch in early December – and that as any fan will know, is not much. I have tried and tried , but every time the frustration means I fail - and that says it all.

I play a lot of games - good games. And so by default, this is not a good game.

I just haven’t played it.

Come on Mario.

Started biking in again today and I’d forgotten how much better than the tube it is. He said, smugly.

The Eagles Of Death Metal, London Astoria

edm.jpg

p3090001.jpg

Legs astride, leant right back and twirling his massive ‘tache - the Eagles of Death Metal front man Jesse “the devil” Hughes is every inch the rock superstar.

Josh Homme has taken a back seat now, with touring duties left to Hughes and his motley crew style band. Fortunately for us this only seems to have strengthened the experience.

Like the Queens before them, the Eagles are rock and roll - there is so much noise and energy pouring from the stage that you just can’t help but smile your way through. And though there is humour and a little melodrama, this is certainly not a Darkness style parody.

This is The Eagles of Death Metal, this is their life and man does it look fun.

Down and dirty riffs, screechy guitar solos, hip thrusting and camp old school poodle rock gesturing.

Everything, from Cherry Cola to I Only Want You was immense. Throughout, the gig had the rare quality that we were witnessing a bit of a special moment. Perhaps not in musical history - but certainly EoDM history.

Like this is their finest hour and we are right there with them.

Awesome.

Richard Dee Rocks

Mr Dee, pictured here on the Right, had a spare ticket to the Eagles of Death Metal. Instead of sell it to a nasty tout, he gave it to a homeless guy (left).

Although he’d never heard of the band, the guy had a brilliant time.

Nice work Mr Dee.

The Tottenham, Oxford Street (TCR Tube)

totenham.jpg

This is always going to be a weird place as, like all shopping area pubs, it’s customers change with the clock. I was here on Sunday Night before the Eagles of Death Metal gig - so the bar was full of EoDM fans. This made the atmosphere good, I imagine it’s not quite so good on a weekday afternoon.

Having said all of that, it’s a pub, and it sells Stella.

How weird or bad can that be?

World Snooker NW10.

snooker-image-1.jpg
Following a disappointing opening last month, I last night regained my confidence and took an important fame to level the contest at 1/1. And with the prize money a potential £60, it’s important not to let my opponent make any headway at this early stage.

Campbell never really got a foothold in the game and will rue missing some easy chances that opened the frame up and gave me plenty opportunity. In retrospect it wasn’t pretty, but I produced the goods and eventually won by some 40 odd points.
